Maybe Tennesse

Two places I said I've always wanted to live, Colorado or Tennessee. Colorado is so expensive now.Well there may be an opportunity  to move to Tennessee in a couple of years. I say a couple cause there are some things to get done here.Looking at Savannah Tennessee and  it's along the the Tennessee river. I've talked to someone already up there and he said it's a really good town to live in. So as soon as I can get things together like tune up the truck going to take a road trip.

Also I have always wanted to open a trading post, just a post without using money. I think that would be good and it would help people too. I sound corny don't I? It's something to ponder.

Ok on to something cool. I'm making a makeshift Berkey water filter. I watched a video of how to do it and it would save me a lot of money. Two buckets and filter with spout. I can't wait. Also I'm looking into a woodburning stove. If this Tennessee move comes, going off grid is a big possibility.Save a ton of money. I'm getting a nice size camper/RV to live in til I can figure something about a cabin. Yes he will be there to help with all this.Long story but he got a dose of reality.

I am looking for ideas, people who have done this. The land I looked at online(and still may get if the payments are low enough) come next year, I'd be a fool not to snatch it up. The land is unrestricted which means I can park my camper on it without interference. The one I looked at has a space for a garden and plenty of timber. I'll be fun and to get away from this place. Savannah looks to have some recreation for a couple of old farts. I'm done with this place. It needs some TLC which I don't have the money to give it now.So I'll be selling to whoever has the patience.I'll sell as is.

My Marigolds are so pretty this year.

Some oils i'm using for my soaps. It smells so good!

I had an abundance of chocolate mint this year too.

This is a Wheeler bug,the sting hurts.No I didn't get stung.

  • Well that's it,just hanging out at home, tending to chickens and the garden. Ya'll have a good evening!

Enough with the Cucumbers!

Jeez I said this year well I'm just going to plant a few 10 cucumber plants and wow they took off. I've had cucumber salad, cucumber sauce, cucumber strips dipped in ranch. My chickens I know are sick of them. They quit coming around when they seen I had some. But all in all,the garden did well. Been eating out of it so didn't get a chance to put anything up. Oh well. Next year will be better. I am fixing to put in the fall stuff. I got my box full of seeds and I cleaning up the beds.

So were my Gladiolus

Pretty uh?I've had fun this year despite the turmoil that's going on in the world. My garden is the only thing that has helped me .

Making soap

 Making more soap
Radishes done well.Lettuce and kale did too.

Well things are being what they are,big virus stuff,I have not caught it.I'm well and staying to myself. Terrified sometimes wondering where we are headed.  Ollie has been a blessing,he seems to know that there is tension in the air but we try to relax as much as we can. I stay busy working around the house and try to get stuff done. Now here comes the big one. I'm not staying here in Alabama. Remember when I said in earlier posts I didn't feel right about being here. Now I know.Looking at other places to buy some property and go completely off grid. I'm done with Alabama. Got 2 years left here, need to get some things finished but after that I'm out of here. Why do all this and then move?  This house is too much for me to try to take care of and the weather has been atrocious and it's getting harder and harder to do anything. So I'm looking at a smaller place but hopefully better land.Knowing what I know now,it wouldn't take me long to do another garden. Yes I'm taking my birds! The only thing I'm not looking forward to is cleaning out all this clutter.

I do have a big selection of seeds I've ordered and saved. My houseplants are doing really good. High humidity and rain will do it.With all this rain, the snakes are showing up too. I have a large one under the house and I have no idea what it is. I let the chickens out in the afternoon to run around and do what chickens do. But I sit out there with them. We got big hawks and an eagle now.

Well alittle has been going on. I'm not saying much about hubstead and I won't but we're working on some things.

I'm just going to write this bit and I'm fixing to go over and catch up on other blogs. But thanks for dropping by! Have a good evening.

A New Year for Misty Pines

It was a good summer last year. 98% of what I planted grew. I have eggplants,Bell Peppers and Kolhrabi started along with ground cherries. I only had one plant last year but they were really good. This year I have 18 ground cherries and 18 kolhrabis. I'll plant more later. The kale ,lettuce and radishes have been producing a little.I went this year and got mostly new seeds and they ones I planted haven't quite come up yet.I had planted onions last year and they are doing better. Should see my cauliflowers!

Oh my the rain we have been having. I'm surprised anything I planted hasn't got water logged. The cauliflower is so nice and this will be our first year growing it. I have 6 plants so far. I'm trying the companion planting this year.So it will be fun this year.

The chicks are coming, got the coop now,its small only enough for 4 birds but later I'll be expanding those.Fencing in the garden too. Dang deer finally got a hold of the okra and ate every one I had and broken the stems too. Yeah I love deer stew and roast in the slow cooker.Later been thinking about meat birds too. But it's a thought. I'm also thinking rabbits.

Garden,I've been laying cardboard and weed barrier down and this year already the pine trees have been shedding pine needles like crazy. I have alot of landscaping to do but so far it looks great.

Cauliflowers

Landscaping with pine needles

It has  been pretty cold.25 degrees last night,25 degrees  tonight. They are saying we are going to have an early spring, maybe. The daffodils are blooming and the fake pear trees are blooming too.
That groundhog better be right. Kudos to everyone living up north! I couldn't live in that kind of cold.

Well I gained some weight back but it's my doings. Yet I'm still not smoking so it's all good.My son has come down with pneumonia and the flu and has been in the hospital for a week already. They have him on a respirator and meds. He's doing better. I'm happy he has someone like my daughter_in_law to take care of him. I do miss him.

I have learned how to make bath bombs and have been working on a braided rug. I'll post it when I'm done.
Misty Pines Homestead will be up and running this year finally. We have been building here and there these last few years. So now its coming!
